EDUCATOR BIO
Julia

english & writing tutor
Background:
I’m Julia, an educator with over fifteen years of experience. I’ve taught secondary school students and undergraduates, and my career has spanned three countries: the US, France, and the UK. My educational approaches are enriched by research into best teaching practices, neurodiversity, and equity and inclusivity in education. I love providing students with strategies that allow them to work with instead of against the ways their minds naturally work. This way, students are empowered to develop their strengths, approach difficult tasks strategically, and strive to meet high standards while feeling supported emotionally. I believe that students are most likely to succeed when they feel understood, supported, and free to be their authentic selves. When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, listening to music, watching movies, creating art, and spending time with friends and family.
Grade Level(s): 9th grade through university

JULIA'S REVIEWS
"Julia's teaching style works for me because she provides practical examples to help me better understand what the assignment is, and as a visual learner those examples give me a whole new perspective on the assignment.”

JULIA'S REVIEWS
“I really love working with Julia because she gives me concrete examples from her own work that help me learn more about how to do research and write college-level papers. For example, when helping me research sources for an assignment she referenced her last work in grad school, and that helped me understand what I was doing! She’s also super kind and patient!”
